JAIPONG DANCE IN MATSWAPATI

Recently, my school held a cultural festival on Saturday 27th 2014. Its name is 'MATSWAPATI'. It is to celebrate the anniversary of Bandung. The name of the festival was taken from the name one of the wayang (traditional perfomance in Indonesia) named Prabu Matswapati. Prabu Matswapati is the great king of the Wirata Country, a king who reigns of king.

In this cultural festival, there are many perfomance that shows Indonesia's culture especially sundanese culture like anglung, traditional dance, traditional martial arts and many others. But this time I'll tell you about the traditional sundanese dance, Jaipong.

But first I will tell you a little about the history of Jaipong dance. This dance was created by an artist from Bandung, Gugum Gumbira in 1960's, with the purpose to create a kind of music and social dances excavated from the wealth of folk art traditions of the archipelago, particularly in West Java. Even though Jaipong dance included relatively new, but this dance developed from the previous folk art Ketuk Tilu, Kliningan, and also Ronggeng.

In 1961, Indonesian President Soearno prohibited rock and roll and other western genres of music, and challenged Indonesian musicians to revive indigenous arts. The name jaipongan came from people mimicking of the sounds created by some of the drums in the ensemble. audiences were often heard shouting jaipong after specific sections of rhytmic music were played. Jaipongan debuted in 1974 when Gugum Gumbira and his gamelan and dancers first performed in public.

In the Matswapati, the dancer of the Jaipong dance was from jugala orchestra. Jugala orchestra is one of the famous dance troupe. They were 3 of them who dances on the stage. The Maybe you wondering why I choose Jaipong for this topic. This is because I think Jaipong is the most beautiful dance that I've ever seen cause I love the combination of the dance and some of the martial ats.

For their costumes, They are wearing kebaya. Usually, they are wearing the colorful kebaya because it is suitable with the jaipong's dance that is dinamic and energic. For the under outfit, they are wearing the legging pants combined with jarit. This costume is affected by the sundanese culture for the batik's motive, the Betawi's culture for the kebaya, and the last Tionghoa's culture in the bun's pattern. I think this is the end of this topic. Thanks for reading and see you in the next posting!!

MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE

Hello! We meet again in this post. Now, I'll tell you about my memorable experience. When I was in 7th grade at Junior High School, there was a student exchange program to Singapore held by my school. It was the first time my school held such a program. For a really long time, I really wished to go to abroad by my friends without parent's guide. And so, it was realized by joing the student exchange program. I took a part in the test. There were writing and listening test and also an interview.
When it was the day my teacher announced the result. Everyone including me was in panicked mode. I was playing really hard. I was very happy when my teacher mentioned my name. There were 13 people who passed the test, 4 boys and 9 girls. In three month, we were trained intensively for preparing the farewell night party show. we were going to perform an angklung ensemble.
We took the morning flight to the Singapore. I was very excited, cause it was my first time going abroad with friends. There were 5 teachers who accompanied us. we stayed in the Singapore for a week in the hostel. After we arrived in the singapore, we directly go to hostel to prepare going to the school for the next day. Apparently, There was also one school who joined the student exchange program like us. They were from Palu. At night, we ate outside and sight seeing accompanied by the street lights.
The next day, I went to the school by bus with my whole fried. The school name's Juying Secondary School ( JYSS). We were going have buddy from JYSS who will guide and accompany us in the school. My buddy's name is Sammie. Sammie is a girl. It turned out that I was one class with one of my senior from my school. Their studies is very different from Indonesia. And the students in there were very nice to me. I learned many things from them. It was very precious to me.  I had a really nice time studying there for 5 days. Apart from going to school and study, we went to many places like Safari Night, China town, Universal Studios, and many others.
When the farewell party, we performed the angklung ensemble that we've trained for months. Afterwards, there was a gift exchange session. I got a chocolate from Sammie. It was very delicious. The next morning, some of my friends from Juying went to the airport to say good bye to me and my friends. It was very dramatic moment and I can't bear it for a second. My trip to Singapore is a very unforgettable moments to me.
